In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Mary Brickell played a crucial role in the development of Colee Hammock and Beverly Heights, two beautiful neighborhoods she thoughtfully platted and helped bring to life. Her strategic land acquisitions and unwavering determination significantly influenced the growth of our city.
Among her many accomplishments, Mary Brickell persuaded Henry Flagler to extend his Florida East Coast Railway south from Palm Beach—an expansion that was instrumental in our city’s transformation.
Today, we live and gather in the very neighborhoods she imagined, a lasting testament to her remarkable legacy of foresight, courage, and community-building.
